Amazing Space

November 17, 2007

Have you ever seen a meteor shower? When people see them, they are so excited to witness the stars dancing across the sky. It gives them such a sense of wonder and awe. It is truly amazing.

Because meteor shower particles all travel in parallel paths at the same velocity, they all appear to radiate away from a single point among the constellations. This is caused by the effect of perspective.

This "fixed point" slowly moves across the sky during the night due to the Earth turning on its axis, the same reason the stars appear to slowly march across the sky. The radiant drift also moves slightly from night to night against the background stars due to the Earth moving in its orbit around the sun.

A meteor shower is the result of an interaction between a planet and a comet. Comets are comprised of ice and rock, orbiting the Sun. Each time a comet swings by the Sun in its orbit, some of its ice melts and it sheds debris. As the debris streams from the comet, it forms the comet's visible tail. The rest is a feast for your eyes.

Today make someone turn on their axis. Be their orbit, their moon, their stars, their meteor. Make their day. Be awe-inspiring. Be amazing.

Alexys,

This is why you are a winner to me :)!
I know exactly what you mean by the last portion of your post: my baby is my big star (my sun), and I am his moon *in love face*!

About the meteor shower: I tried once to see it, but it was a complete faillure (it had been announced on TV, we gathered friends, bought sleeping-bags, went to our terrace...and nothing occurred *nodding*)!

You have been awarded:

I've not seen one, but I think it would be interesting.

Laviosier decried the idea that meteor showers came from the heavens as pre supersition- a lot of eighteenth century enlightenment thought was devoted to proving they were a terrestiasl phenomenon.

A rare example of the 'superstition' being true, and science being wrong.

The awe, splendor, and beauty of a clear night sky is impressive. All the more so during a meteor shower. If you can inspire the same in one of your fellows, you've made quite the accomplishment. Go for it, and see how everyone's day improves.

Oh cosmic soul,

Your love explodes in the sky and showers the world with tender grace.

Awe-inspiring, Amazing - All this and more ... are you.

With love, Maithri

Max,
At least the awesomeness of the metereor shower can appear in your baby - - and it's much better than going out to seek one. You already have it in him. (Awwwww that's sweet.)

Thanks for the award. You are awesome.

Crushed,
Any way you slice them, they are really incredible to see and they leave you with a sense of something magnificent.

Hi John,
So nice of you to drop in.

I think that would be great to inspire the same wonder and awe of a meteor into someone else. Touch them in a way they have never been touched and inspire them to new life.

I agree, you will not only improve their day, but probably their outlook.

Maithri,
If you didn't have the love yourself you wouldn't see it in me. I can only reflect the magnitude in your own Soul - - and it fills the universe with spectacular light showers and trail of love.

You have filled my face with smiles and my heart with majesty.

Stay centered in my universe.

Peaceful blessings my devoted one.

Alexys,

How true, how true; dear :)! Awww, you're sweet *tender face*!
You are welcome! Like I said on the comment section: I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you :).

Cheers
