Remember Them

November 12, 2007

In honor of Veteran’s Day. Let’s remember the soldiers who have fought and who are still fighting a battle only known to them. A battle that stretches beyond our imagination and into the unknown.

They are on the front lines, in the trenches, seeing images we would never understand and embedding them into their memories. Images they never forget
. Images that haunt them and destroy their lives.

Today in America we celebrate them. A token of our appreciation, but it could never really bring back the thousands who have lost their lives at the hands of underhanded deal makers who sell their Souls to the devil.

Remember the soldiers today. Remember them everyday.

“Heroism is latent in every human soul -
However humble or unknown,
they (the veterans) have renounced
what are accounted pleasures
and cheerfully undertaken
all the self-denials - privations,
toils, dangers, sufferings,
sicknesses, mutilations, life.”

We had a really good ceremony over here with the Queen laying wreaths down and then some really old soldiers from World War One... I think the oldest was 110 years old!

Amazing stuff... it seems to have been a bigger deal this year than most... not quite sure why

Without them, we wouldn't have our freedom...

Gledwood,
110 Wow! Those are some good genes. I think the war in Iraq has been a black eye to England and America, that's why they are making a big deal out of it.

We want it over already. Hopefully soon.

Annie,
Freedom always come with a price.
Thanks for sharing your view.

'but it could never really bring back the thousands who have lost their lives at the hands of underhanded deal makers who sell their Souls to the devil.'

As often as not, that sums it up.

Maybe one day we'll ALL have to fight for our freedom.

Crushed,
Freedom IS worth the fight!

I have to admit that the whole Lest We Forget and Armistice Day is quite hypocritical when wars are still going on.
I would lock my loved one in the basement before letting them die at the direction of a Bush or Blair.

Ubermouth,
"I would lock my loved one in the basement before letting them die at the direction of a Bush or Blair."

That's true. Or at least high tail it to Canada.

My favorite quote about war,

"Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth."

~Mark Twain
