The Mysterious

December 29, 2007

“The most beautiful thing
we can experience
is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art
and all science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger,
who can no longer pause to wonder
and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead:
his eyes are closed.”

~Albert Einstein

Again, not much to add to that.

The thirst for knowledge is the purest of all desires.

Crushed,
The thirst for knowledge is really the thirst for understanding, thus the thirst to be understood and to know.

The paradox of man - simple complexity.

Great quote, and while I, uh, don't know as me questioning Einstein exactly "adds up," I can't help but wonder if the experience of awe isn't at least as much perception or cognition as it is emotion.

I know I sure don't know what we're all doing here, why anything is at all, what the full extent of being or reality is - what it may or may not include. So I'm thinking that the experience of awe seems highly reality-based.

Paul,
I think awe is a matter of feeling. We can't really aim it, we just have to feel it. If we have to think about it, then it is fabricated. I think it starts as a real emotion and in recalling the instance that originally caused it, it becomes cognition. (My opinion anyway.)

I love the feeling of awe when it catches me off guard, there's nothing like it. Awe-inspiration is very real.

Oh my my my,

:) Alexys my sister, I love the way you deftly, effortlessly share the wisdom which is needed to start a new year...or anything new for that matter...

With such humility and elegant simplicity...you show us that it is 'the mystery' which is the ultimate reality...

You know.. I have four degrees in scientific stuff... but the more i learn, the more I realise, that I know nothing.

And I love knowing nothing...;) Ha!

Life is the mystery. And the mystery is joy.

Bless you soaring spirit, you warm my heart with your love and grace,

Maithri.

Maithri,
Have you ever heard the adage, the more you know, the more you don't know? I think education teaches us to memorize facts, figures, procedures, history, etc. but it doesn't teach us to discover the mystery of ourselves; the very mystery to unlock the secrets in our Soul. That's why many times we have to clear our consciousness in order to gain it.

Life is a mystery; an education in itself. Love is the answer. Joy is the blessing and you, my friend are all of it rolled into one care package.

Every time I think that you have warmed my heart, you up the stakes and take it even further into the fire of love. Thank you for taking me further into the heart of your goodness and godliness.

Let the mystery unfold.

Hi, I just found your page and wanted to say I think this is a great blog. It seems to me that the mundane day to day of life sets the stage for awe, when it shows up unexpectedly, to personally be so moving and invigorating.

Bon Ami,
I agree. Isn't it great when we are surpised by awe - and we never forget the feeling.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your comments.
