The Closed Door

January 23, 2008

I live across the street from a small post office that’s off the beaten path.

Like most government buildings, it is closed on holidays and weekends. On such days, a ‘CLOSED’ sign is posted on the glass doors as big as day.

Sometimes, I’ll step out on the balcony just to get some fresh air or observe people in their natural habitat.

Like a classic film, I will always find something watchable.
The life actors are already in their scenes with their lines and motivations memorized to perfection.

They don’t even know that they are performing on the stage of life.

Human beings never cease to amaze me. We are so intricately entwined in our thoughts sometimes that I don’t know how some of us get from point A to point B.

The other day the post office was closed for the Martin Luther King holiday. I saw a few people drive into the empty lot of the post office. They would get out of their car and saunter to the front door.

When it didn’t open, they would try to push the door open and then pull on the handle. Remember there is a huge sign that reads, ‘CLOSED.’

One man even started knocking on the door and yelling,

“Hello? Open the door. Hello, anybody there? I need stamps.”

He must have thought that he was giving his order at a drive-thru.

He banged on the door again and looked inside the door as if someone was hiding in there.

He reluctantly walked away ten minutes, totally bewildered and looking back every few seconds as if someone was going to open the door and say, “Surprise!”

Though the sign was in full view, he never saw it, not once. Often the signs are right in front of us and we still can’t see them. They can be as plain as day.

The signs are not relegated to pieces of paper on doors. They can be in a message; something someone says out of the blue that makes us stand back, something in a newspaper, advertisement, television, etc.

They are signs from the universe and they are tangible.

The message that we need to see or hear is often in front of us. Anyway we look at it, no matter how hard we push a closed door it won't open.

No matter how strong our desire is to open the door, it is closed. No matter how alluring the other side is, it is closed.

It is closed for a reason. We are not meant to go inside. Even if somehow we get the door open, it still may slam shut. That is a sign. There is nothing there for us anymore.

It is time for our next experience. Time to move on. Time to open another door. Another chapter. Don’t deny yourself your true destiny to walk through as many open doors as possible.

Alexys my beautiful sister,

You are singing to my soul this morning....

I amazed at the number of times I come here and exactly the thing i've just been talking about or thinking about... you've posted on.

My friend calls them the 'ooga booga booga' moments ;)...those spooky co-incidences.

I needed to read this powerful post before i go to sleep tonight ;).

Your graciousness and wisdom astound me,

Love and blessings, M

Guilty Secret 6:39 AM

Great post. I loved how you see a message in everyday experiences, like the guy not noticing the sign. Your blog is the absolute opposite to what this post was about!

Max 7:24 AM

Alexys,

This is one of those highly meaningful posts: congratulations :)!

I loved the analogy of the man yelling in front of a closed post-office: many do the same before the closed door of life.
You spoke of signs; life is full of signs but people choose to ignore them. For example, when a person is speaking and one interrupts (either because he is rude, or because something tells him to interrupt) her then the person tries to continue and is still interrupted, she must think if whether what she had to say should be said (it can be a sign to be silent); if you are walking down a street and suddenly your heart gets heavy, you should stop and walk in the opposite direction without asking further questions (it may be danger waiting for you); if you dream of something and you experience something similar to that dream beware and follow the "Instructions" according to the final results; etc...

Signs bump into us all the time, we just need to take heed. Otherwise we will hear "Surprise!" in the after-tragedy or, in the worse case (depending on the point of view), in the after-life.

Indeed, we should allow ourselves to experience as much life chapters as possible :).

Great post, dear :D!

Cheers

Since we're both writers and understand our "curse", do you think that this post having more typos than I've ever seen you commit is a "message" about your life--at least your life surrounding the writing of the post?

Great post Alexys,

Definitely food for thought.

I'll be looking out for closed doors because like you said some doors are never ment to open. But how do we really know they're not to ever open?

Fotunately some other doors are open and others open only with persistence.

Alexys Fairfield 2:20 PM

Maithri,
Do Ra Mi Fa So La Ti Do. Excuse me, I'm just practicing the scales so I can continue to sing to your Soul my brother.

It's because I know what is in your heart that I can speak so directly to you. I know it's full of love, tenderness and grace.

Living in the lower worlds, the same things come up for all of us, just part of earth's classroom.

"Your graciousness and wisdom astound me."

I only echo you. ;D

Peace my love.

Alexys Fairfield 2:24 PM

GS,
Because details are what makes any story interesting, I think I have a knack for seeing them.

I like it when I can show those details in such a way that we can all look at ourselves and say, "Do I really do that?"

Alexys Fairfield 2:43 PM

Max,
Yes there are so many signs, but do we pay attention? Not until something happens to get our attention. For instance, when we ignore chest pains, we may have a heart attack.

Sometimes when I tell a person something that may have been too much for them, I will literally bite my lip (the universe makes sure of it.) That's how I know that perhaps I revealed too much. (Wait, let me check my lip. Okay it's not bleeding so we're cool. ;D)

"Signs bump into us all the time..."

I like this. We don't bump into them, THEY bump into US, even when we try to avoid them.

(Reminds me of this quote from Malcolm X. "We didn't land on Plymouth rock. Plymouth rock landed on us.")

Thanks for illustrating excellent examples of signs and being so interactive to this post. I am in deep gratitude for your brain and Soul power.

Here's to another chapter for both of us in the epic novel of life.

Cheers

Alex,
Ahhhhhhh! You know that typos drive me crazy.
I have combed over the post and still can't find them. Are you sure they are there?

Like I said before, sometimes I can't see them and then they will show up the next morning.

I really like your phrase, "Typo-terrorists!"

Classic.

Thanks for being my extra pair of eyes.

Alexys Fairfield 3:01 PM

Haamidah,
Thank you for taking a bite out of this post.

"But how do we really know they're not to ever open?"

When we knock our heads against it, pound our fists enough times on it, try to kick it in and it won't budge - - I would take that as a sign not to enter that door.

I agree some doors are always open, like the doors of spirit and other doors can open with persistence.

Kirsten 5:17 PM

Here's an anecdote for you:

Once, as a stressed-out student, I went to a public library to get yet another book for a paper I was writing. When I got there...the doors didn't slide open. What? Huh?

Then I looked at the sign...."closed for Labor Day."

Yes, I was so busy "laboring" I forgot all about the holiday. Now that experience taught me something about being too busy and preoccupied!

Loving Annie 6:24 PM

Alexys,
knowing the difference between accepting what is - and trying to make things work / not giving up, is important... Sometimes things are just supposed to be easy. And if they are hard, you are right, it is best to walk away... A balancing act here in perception and intuition, I suppose... Giving up too easily - or doing what is best...

RubyShooZ 7:59 PM

So much of my life I've seen signs as authority and not meant for me so I ignored them and so many times I wished I'd stopped a minute, read the sign and obeyed.

I'm one of those people who had to touch the stove 300 times even though I'd been told it'll burn you, it's hot...

Thank goodness I've finally learned that I can learn from others, I don't have to touch the stove anymore and I pay attention to signs - especially the signs from within.

Love to you today my friend. Thank you for the sign you've left here for us today.

Livingsword 9:17 PM

Hi Alexys;

Very well written article…

I guess I would differ in that from my viewpoint the “signs” are not from the universe but from God, the universe is a creation and He is Creator….

In a previous season of my life I often ended up at dead ends, and doors that said “closed”, sometimes I would try the metaphorical “windows”, or even pounding my head on the walls….

In my present season I simply walk thru the many doors He opens. Instead of asking Him to open the doors I want I ask Him to open the doors He wants opened to me…

…But I want to congratulate you on a nicely tailored piece of work.

This is really good, Alexys. Your writing can change the world :-)

Max 7:49 AM

Hi Alexys,

"Yes there are so many signs, but do we pay attention?" - we hardly do, my friend *nodding*.

"For instance, when we ignore chest pains, we may have a heart attack." - it is so very true....

"Sometimes when I tell a person something that may have been too much for them, I will literally bite my lip (the universe makes sure of it.) That's how I know that perhaps I revealed too much. (Wait, let me check my lip. Okay it's not bleeding so we're cool. ;D)" - lol yeah, it didn't seem to be bleeding from here, no ;D. When I am saying something and I get interrupted, you bet that I will silence for good lol (cause if I bite my lip it will bleed for real lol lol).

"I like this. We don't bump into them, THEY bump into US, even when we try to avoid them." - exactly, and we often try to avoid them *nodding*.

"(Reminds me of this quote from Malcolm X. "We didn't land on Plymouth rock. Plymouth rock landed on us.")" - did you know that I used to be a fan of Malcom X when I was a teenager?

"Thanks for illustrating excellent examples of signs and being so interactive to this post. I am in deep gratitude for your brain and Soul power." - You are most welcome, my dear friend :D! Thank you *bowing*, I am also grateful for having met you :D!

"Here's to another chapter for both of us in the epic novel of life." - salute!!!

Cheers

Life Reflection 7:49 AM

Alexys,

I prefer to try opening it first. If all things failed, sometimes we just have to let it go.

Alexys Fairfield 12:06 PM

Kirsten,
Thank you for sharing that part of your life that helped to illustrate the post. I am glad that you learned something from that. While we can be busy, it's best not to be preoccupied. :D

Alexys Fairfield 12:12 PM

Annie,
Of course there are no hard and fast rules to anything and you are absolutely right, there is a difference between accepting and not giving up. Sometimes, we don't know when to give up and it becomes apparent that we are beating a dead horse. I guess it depends on the situation. It IS all a balancing act and we are all acrobats trying to stay on the rope. Thanks for your insightful input.

Alexys Fairfield 12:21 PM

Ruby,
How ARE you? I am so happy for your presence today. Life comes with instructions and all sorts of signs, we just have to find them. It's like a treasure hunt. When we find the prize, we are just so happy that we can stay in the game.

It takes some of us longer to get there, but if we are on the right track, we WILL get there eventually. Thank you for sharing a little piece of your Soul and love here.

Love to you and yours.

Alexys Fairfield 12:34 PM

Hi LS,
Thank you for your generous words.

I use God and the universe interchangeably; it depends on the flow of the sentence. They are both love and life and the feeling and intention is always the same.

"In a previous season of my life I often ended up at dead ends, and doors that said “closed”, sometimes I would try the metaphorical “windows”, or even pounding my head on the walls…."

That sounds painful, hope it didn't injure you too much. ;D

"Instead of asking Him to open the doors I want I ask Him to open the doors He wants opened to me…"

That's a very proactive way to live. I think every door that is open, is opened for us. It's what we do on the other side of those doors that counts. And once we go through the door, it's up to us to hold it for others to follow; don't you think?

"…But I want to congratulate you on a nicely tailored piece of work."

Thanks again for your most generous compliment. It made me smile. :D

Alexys Fairfield 12:38 PM

Eve,
Thanks. That is so sweet of you. (smiling) My only hope to to illuminate someone else's life with what I have learned and show another view. We may not be able to change the world, but we can change ourselves.

Thanks again. :D

Alexys Fairfield 12:46 PM

Max,
I don't ever want you to be silenced. Your voice is too important. (Bleeding lip and all.)

You were a Malcom X fan. Really? Did you learn something that resonated during your teen years? I didn't know a lot about him, then I saw the film and knew even less.

Here's to you sista.

Alexys Fairfield 12:49 PM

Ivy,
Yes, it's good to try to open the door, but the test comes when we are locked out or it opens like magic.

And knowing when to let go plays a major role too.

Livingsword 1:28 PM

Hi Alexys;

My compliment is genuine and deserved, you are a good writer, I don’t have to agree with everything you say to recognize talent, and you have it….

My past “season” was painful. But the injuries have healed nicely. LOL

“….That's a very proactive way to live. I think every door that is open, is opened for us. It's what we do on the other side of those doors that counts. And once we go through the door, it's up to us to hold it for others to follow; don't you think?.....”

I think it matters Who is opening the doors… And I agree with you in that we should hold the door open for others, this is what many call evangelizing.

I am very pleased to have passed along a smile to you, I just received one in return…. Take care…

Mark 2:46 PM

Alexys,
Yes, it is so true that we must be open and aware of the signs. There are reasons that a door may be closed to us and to try to force our way in can have horrible results. We must be thankful for the closed door and ready for the next one that is open to us, knowing that the one that was closed was closed for a reason.
Great post!

Gledwood 2:57 PM

Do they close all weekend~?!? How inconvenient!

I thought American post offices would be open 24 hours... especially in New York ... the City that never sleeps...

Alexys Fairfield 4:22 PM

LS,
I am honored by your words and deeply grateful for them. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I am really happy that you are healed from the past season. We could all use healing in our daily lives. It is such a warm and fuzzy feeling to know that we have traversed a painful experience and we can look back on it and say. "I made it through that. Now I can do anything."

"I think it matters Who is opening the door."

Absolutely!

"And I agree with you in that we should hold the door open for others, this is what many call evangelizing."

Oh, I learned something. I didn't know it was called "Evangelizing."

Thanks again my friend.

Btw, every time I go to your site, I find that the page doesn't load. I will continue to try (maybe from another computer) and drop in and see you.

Take care.

Alexys Fairfield 4:26 PM

Mark,
Yes. We must be grateful for some doors closing and others opening. Though at the time of the closed door, we may complain and curse the heavens, but that's like fighting against nature.

Thanks for your valuable comments. Always appreciated.

Alexys Fairfield 4:31 PM

Gleds,
We have one at the airport that is opened 24 hours. Don't know about New York though. Though we still get awful service, they like increasing the price. Go figure.

Btw, I like your new avatar, but I miss the little baby one.

Crushed by Ingsoc 4:32 PM

I don't know why, but this evening is getting very strange...

I have had time to read a tiny number of blogs, and this will be the last but two.

By some really wierd law of the universe, each post i have read so far, could have followed on from the previous one, as if I have been directed somehow to read a particular set of blogs in sequence.

And your post sets the seal on it.

OK, let's see where we end up next...

Livingsword 4:43 PM

Hi Alexys;

Thanks for your kind response….

…I’m always happy when others want to hold the door open for me, it often shows a concern for me…which is why I like to hold the door open for others…

It is interesting how at times certain blogs/web pages have trouble loading either because a myriad of internet issues or browser issues.

Don’t take it as a “closed door” LOL LOL

Talk to you later…

Alexys Fairfield 6:10 PM

Crushed,
Don't you think bloggers have an inside line to other bloggers? We are like soothsayers. I think we always go where we are supposed to be - and not a minute too soon.

That's cool that you can pick blogs at random and still get the message. The blogosphere is certainly synchoronized to give us what we need.

It also sounds like a great idea for a meme.

Alexys Fairfield 6:21 PM

LS,
"I’m always happy when others want to hold the door open for me, it often shows a concern for me…which is why I like to hold the door open for other."

Defintitely. Holding doors open is the best way to show our godliness.

"It is interesting how at times certain blogs/web pages have trouble loading either because a myriad of internet issues or browser issues."

So, it's not just me then.

"Don’t take it as a “closed door” LOL LOL"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Touché!

I love it when a post can come back and haunt me. Brilliant! (Still laughing.)

I will think of it as a rusty door that needs oiling. I will bring the WD40 with me next time. (Which is not to say that you are in any way rusty. Au contraire.)

Take care

Maithri 6:52 PM

Your grace is beautiful to behold my friend,

I like the idea of holding the door open for others, and LS has created an interesting definition of 'evangelism'

As long as we just hold the door open and dont bang people on the head with the bible if they dont walk through... i think its a great definition. ;)

Apologies for my silliness...

Love and blessings, M

Livingsword 8:55 PM

Hi Alexys;

LOL Funny I was sure I left that door open…

Livingsword 9:13 PM

Hi Maithri, nice to meet you….

I completely agree you, or in the format of our analogy we should not try to “push others thru the doorway”. Of course I believe it is ok to say there is only one true door and to invite others to join you. I believe in freedom of speech and faith so I am also willing to also be evangelized…

Alexys Fairfield 9:27 PM

Maithri,
Don't ever apologize. We are all a myriad of emotions, thoughts, feelings, moods, etc. besides silliness is one of my favorites.

Yes, LS has created an interesting definition.

I don't think we can go wrong by holding the door open. God holds the door open for all of us - until it shuts close, but not to worry, another one will open when it's time.

Thanks for adding even more flavor to this post.

Alexys Fairfield 9:36 PM

LS,
Don't worry I'm like a cat burglar, I can get into tight spaces. ;D

P.S. If you want to be wowed, check out Maithri's blog. It will knock your socks off.

Maithri 9:40 PM

Hi LS,

Lovely to meet you also.

I am a Christian also. My father is a pastor as was my grand father and my great grand father before him.

But in my humble opinion to say that there is only one true door to the God of love, is like saying there is only one stream that leads to the ocean...

"In my fathers house there are many mansions"

"Other Sheep I have who are not of this fold"

May the love of Jesus, the love that always included everyone... teach us all to keep our minds open to the God who is bigger than all our little definitions and doorways.

Maithri.

Livingsword 10:07 PM

Hi Alexys;

Wow is this confession time, how long have you been stealing cats? (A meager attempt at humor, my apologies)

Thanks for the tip I will be sure to visit Maithri’s place, but I do live in Canada so it will be cold without my socks…

Livingsword 10:22 PM

Hi Maithri;

Interesting history your family has….

As you have paraphrased Scripture bringing it into the conversation then I will mention some of its exclusive texts….

- "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

- Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved."

- Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

There is no reason for people to act like we all believe the same thing, worship the same God. We don’t, all the major belief systems are irreconcilable. Why pretend otherwise? Of course as a follower of Jesus I believe in loving everybody. I am not going to insult a Muslim or atheist and tell them they are too stupid to realize we will all be going to the same place, since their teachings are clearly against that, just like the Bible doesn’t teach that. There is only one way to God. I am ok with people having different beliefs, no problem… As I said I am fine with them evangelizing me, I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion. We can peacefully coexist…

Peace….

Alexys Fairfield 12:34 AM

LS,
The secret is out. Please keep it under wraps. I must confess that whole cat burglar experience was a "catalyst" for life of spirit. ;D

You don't really need your socks because he would knock them off anyway. His love will warm your heart and your feet. You'll see.

Max 9:47 AM

Alexys,

My girl! Thank you for your kind words, I wish you belonged to my family...sometimes they say I talk too much LOL ;)!

I was a Malcom X fan, for real (when one is a teenager one tends to like the most radical leaders). The only thing that I learned was that black people were disrespected; and I began to look around here in Portugal to see how the community was being treated...and sadly I realised that Black people in Portugal were being disrespected, but only on a different level (the Portuguese made them believe that there wasn't racism here, that they were accepted - we were the most mullato country in Europe - however they were not promoted in their jobs, there were not TV commercials with Black people, there weren't black journalists, actors, politicians, executives...hell, not even postmen).

I started to fight against that, in a pacific fashion (of course, otherwise my own Mozambican mom would kill me lol), by talking, talking and talking to my caucasian classmates (cause in my schools my brother and I were the only mulattos present) and their friends...my black friends and their friends...
I don't know if it served any purpose; but I am proud to see that today we have black postmen, actors, journalists, economists, executives...not politicians yet; but we will get there. And now there is this African music (and clubs) fever going on; you can see the caucasians learning how to dance Kizomba and attend the clubs (which were only attended by black people merely 10 years ago). I am starting to be content at our society :).

Malcom X was a bit violent in the beginning; but then he saw the light; only it was too late...
I have watched a few documentaries on him; and he was an intelligent person but also full of anger (in the beginning); if he had mixed himself with the right crowd, he could've lived to see what his work (and of many others, specially Rev. Martin Luther King) resulted in (it is not perfect yet; but it is on the right track).

His violence, his radical thoughts were not absorbed my me :). I am a peace and people lover (although I detest injustice).

Cheers

Max 10:52 AM

Alexys,

You have been awarded:

http://maxcouti.blogspot.com/2008/01/box-full-of-awards.html

Congrats!

Alexys Fairfield 11:19 AM

Max,
"I wish you belonged to my family"

But I do my dear. I do. And what a cool family it is. ;D

"...sadly I realised that Black people in Portugal were being disrespected, but only on a different level (the Portuguese made them believe that there wasn't racism here, that they were accepted - we were the most mullato country in Europe - however they were not promoted in their jobs, there were not TV commercials with Black people, there weren't black journalists, actors, politicians, executives...hell, not even postmen)."

I am surprised and saddened to hear that, especially in Portugal where I thought it was more racially diverse. Racism never makes sense and is SO ignorant that people have such SMALL minds.

"I don't know if it served any purpose; but I am proud to see that today we have black postmen, actors, journalists, economists, executives...not politicians yet; but we will get there."

I think that's a tremendous change and I know it's not over yet.

"And now there is this African music (and clubs) fever going on; you can see the caucasians learning how to dance Kizomba."

Now that sounds interesting. I'd be willing to watch a reality show on that.

"I have watched a few documentaries on him; and he was an intelligent person but also full of anger (in the beginning); if he had mixed himself with the right crowd, he could've lived to see what his work (and of many others, specially Rev. Martin Luther King) resulted in (it is not perfect yet; but it is on the right track)."

I agree. He was a bit combatant but it seems that we never got to know what was in his Soul. I like that the 'X' in Malcolm X represents the unknown African tribal name of his ancestors, who were renamed when they were sold into slavery. I think it was a great way to symbolize what he was fighting for.

"His violence, his radical thoughts were not absorbed my me :). I am a peace and people lover (although I detest injustice)."

I feel you on that. In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

Have a peaceful weekend my sista!

Cheers

Max 11:29 AM

Alexys,

"But I do my dear. I do. And what a cool family it is. ;D" - you are right :D! We are so cooolllll lol ;)

"I am surprised and saddened to hear that, especially in Portugal where I thought it was more racially diverse. Racism never makes sense and is SO ignorant that people have such SMALL minds." - we are racially diverse; however there are these tiny little things that got on my nerves *nodding*...

"I think that's a tremendous change and I know it's not over yet." - yes, it is and no, it's not :).

"Now that sounds interesting. I'd be willing to watch a reality show on that. " - LOL LOL it is extremely interesting! I don't know if the Portuguese will ever make one, but if they do I will let you know :).

"I agree. He was a bit combatant but it seems that we never got to know what was in his Soul. I like that the 'X' in Malcolm X represents the unknown African tribal name of his ancestors, who were renamed when they were sold into slavery. I think it was a great way to symbolize what he was fighting for." - I don't think we ever get to know what is in each other's soul (in depth, I mean). Girl, don't get me started on slavery...it is an issue that breaks my heart *nodding*...I don't cry much, but I cry whenever I watch a movie/documentary on slavery and holocaust.

"I feel you on that. In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"" - yes, why can't we indeed? :D

Thank you, sista; I wish you a blessed weekend :D!

Cheers

Alexys Fairfield 11:46 AM

Max,
"I don't think we ever get to know what is in each other's soul (in depth, I mean)."

Don't you know that I happen to know what's in everyone's Soul. I am a Soul detective. (Wink! Smile.)

"Girl, don't get me started on slavery...it is an issue that breaks my heart ."

I do know what you mean girl. I am listening to "I Shall Be Released," by Nina Simone and it just reminds me so much of slavery, especially the lyrics,

"They say every man needs protection
They say every man must fall
so I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere inside these walls
I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now any day now
I shall be released..."

Peace

UBERMOUTH 8:19 PM

Well written, thought provoking post Alexys.
Your blog is my daily tonic.

Alexys Fairfield 11:38 PM

Uber,
Thanks my darling. I appreciate your awesome comments. Maybe I should bottle it huh? ;D

UBERMOUTH 8:10 AM

Well, You have more to bottle that that. I can certainly see why you are a professional writer.
How's the strike going over there?

Alexys Fairfield 11:46 AM

Uber,
Thanks. Do you think I should open a bottling plant? Selling Soul juice to the soulless.

The writers strike has riled a lot of people. It has caused rampant layoffs in the film industry (all over a few extra pennies.)

It has already affected the Golden Globes, The Grammys and probably the Oscars.

I heard on the news that writers who make an average of $500 k to 2 million are striking. Go figure. I guess they don't make enough - - poor things.

We should all be so lucky.

Liara Covert 4:45 PM

This is a post so many people can relate to. It causes me to reflect on why people will "push" doors when they have a "pull" sign right in front of them. Why is it that we develop selective perception? maybe its all about what we're ready and willing to perceive? After all, how many people do you know who feel ready to accept they choose to be blind to what matters, to what's important or frightened of the truth that sustains them? Your post is like an invitation to examine why we accept and perpetuate our own brainwashing in life.

Alexys Fairfield 6:54 PM

Liara,
"It causes me to reflect on why people will "push" doors when they have a "pull" sign right in front of them."

I see that so often and I must admit that I am sometimes guilty of pushing when it says pull. It's all a matter of attention, but I also think it's more natural to push than pull.

I think we may develop selective perception because we build up resistance to change and thus stay blind to the brainwashing. We hear what makes us feel good in an effort to be good.

Conversely, one can praise and criticize a person and the person will only recall the negativity.

Alexys,

I knew there was something special about you! :D...a soul detective...

Thanks for sharing these lyrics: they are beautiful!! My mom is a huge fan of Nina Simone :).

Peace

Max,
"I knew there was something special about you!"

Oh, you noticed? ;D

Thanks.

"My mom is a huge fan of Nina Simone :)."

My grandmother was a fan too and she gave all of her records to my mother. A lot of her songs are soooo sad. I can't listen to too many.

Have a great week ahead my dear. :D

Hi Alexys;

It may not surprise you that I am more of a “dog person”

By the way I wanted to let you know that when I made my first comment I really wasn’t trying to worm in a conversation with an edge…

As I said to you I admire your writing ability, even if we have a different take on things.

Alexys Fairfield 10:01 PM

LS,
I am more of a dog person too really.

Thank you for the generous words.

Max 7:27 AM

Alexys,

I hear you on Nina Simone!

Thanks, girl :D! I wish you the same :)...

Cheers

Max and Alexys;

I am also a big fan of Nina Simone. As a matter of fact my dear wife was playing one of her CD’s just yesterday! LOL

She is one of the few that have “the voice”.

Alexys cool you like dogs, how about red ruffed lemurs? :)

Alexys Fairfield 9:10 AM

LS,
True, Ms. Simone did have "the voice."

"Alexys cool you like dogs, how about red ruffed lemurs? :)"

Well, I like the color of the hair and we both like fruit. ;D

This reminds me of the sleep-walking, the unconscious walking. Do not worry though, wake-up time is near. Nobody can sleep forever ;)

I added this article to Digg, I encourage others to do the same (add to a social bookmarking) :) Perhaps it will wake other up.

Alexys Fairfield 12:48 AM

CF,
I have seen all of the Rip Van Winkles and they don't seem to be waking up. I hope that the alarm clock will wake them up so they can participate in their existence.

Thanks for the Digg addition.
