I Love Stories Like This

January 9, 2008

My friend Alex sent me this story that is so sweet that I wanted to share it with you all. It makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks Alex. This makes my day every time I read it and hopefully it will hit your heart in just the right place.

Alexys,

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. I have no way to know who sent it, but there is a beautiful Soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.

She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven.

We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven.

That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought God had gotten it.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, "To Meredith," in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, "When a Pet Dies."

Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog.

Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me.

What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

Morning Alexys!!!

Thank you for sharing this heart felt story. I love my dog, he is an extention of my family, and I will be very sad the day he goes. Children have such ways of making things ok; it is amazing. The faith and belief they have is so strong... I think we have alot to learn from them!

Have a nice day and be well!!

Lucid,
Animlas and children do give unconditional love don't they?

I love watching how children interact with life. It is so gentle, fearless and loving.

I know children emulate adults, but we can learn much by emulating them. LOL.

Blessings.

Hello Alexys,

Now this is what I would call a Saturday treat!

This is soooo cute! Meredith is adorable; and how I do understand her: when I was a kid I had a dog (Snoopy) that was ran over by a car and died in my arms...I cried for days!! I loved him.

However I wasn't as smart as Meredith; I didn't write God a letter :).

This may seem crazy but I believe that God could send an Angel to reply to that adorable girl, and send her a book (why not?). Or even influence a good soul to get that letter and reply to her on His behalf (why not that as well?)!

This was wonderful, thank you for sharing it with us :D!

Have a blessed weekend!

Alexys Fairfield 10:59 AM

Max,
Oh, poor Snoopy. That must have been traumatic. :(

"This may seem crazy but I believe that God could send an Angel to reply to that adorable girl, and send her a book (why not?)."

No, that doesn't sound crazy. In the universe anything is possible. I know angels exist. (You're an angel. ;D)

I love that Meredith had so much faith that she wrote the letter to God. She was so thorough too - the way she sent the picture and told God to look out for Abbey. She may even have a secret connection to the spiritual worlds? Perhaps an angel network?

Sending you an angel ((((hug)))) to add to your blessed weekend. :D

Max 7:02 AM

Hello Alexys,

Yes, Snoopy's death was quite traumatic at the time :(! But then I got over it...although I still miss that dog (he was quite special)!

I also believe in Angels :D...me, an angel? lol You are too kind, my dear friend :).
Absolutely! I think that Meredith might have some ESP, or even have some kind of memory of back Home, who knows? An angel network...it is quite possible; you know?
But indeed she was too thorough: amazing :)! She was lucky that her parents are tolerant towards this type of issues, cause there are parents who would have told her that the request was absolutely silly, or out of proportion or whatever (there are parents who castrate their kids' spiritual sensitiveness)...

Oooh, how sweet *warm hug*! Thank you, Alexys :D! I gather you had a marvellous weekend yourself :)!

Cheers

Max,

"I gather you had a marvellous weekend yourself :)!"

Everyday that God sends is a marvelous day. :D

Have a marvelous week my dear.

Cheers.

Max 12:03 PM

Alexys,

My dear angel: thank you so much! And I wish you the same *bowing*!

Cheers

UBERMOUTH 7:34 AM

Oh, that is lovely-- except, if there are no bodies in Heaven how did God hold the pen?
Still beautiful though if you don't think too literal. :)

Alexys Fairfield 11:26 AM

Uber,
God didn't need a pen. When the thought existed so did the note. Besides God has an assistant. (Many assistants.) :D

Surface Earth 7:50 AM

See....there is a God.

This is simply wonderful.

Alexys Fairfield 10:18 AM

Surface,
I think you may be on to something. ;D
